Did You Know Harley-Davidson Once Owned an Italian Motorcycle Company?
Many motorcycle enthusiasts are surprised to learn that Harley-Davidson owned an Italian manufacturer called Aermacchi from the 1960s through to the late 1970s.
While Harley-Davidson is famous for large V-twins, the Italian-built Harley-Davidsons were often lightweight single and two-stroke machines designed for commuting, sport riding and European markets.
Models such as the Harley-Davidson SX175, SX250 and SS350 looked very different from the Milwaukee-built motorcycles most people associate with the Harley name today.
These motorcycles have become interesting collector's pieces in their own right and are a fascinating chapter in Harley-Davidson history that many riders have never heard about.
Have you ever seen or owned an Italian-built Harley-Davidson?
