Why Carburettors Often Cause Trouble After Storage
One of the most common reasons a classic motorcycle refuses to run properly after a period of storage is carburettor trouble.
Modern petrol can leave behind sticky deposits as it evaporates. These deposits can block tiny jets and passages inside the carburettor, restricting fuel flow and causing poor starting, rough running, hesitation or complete refusal to fire up.
A motorcycle that ran perfectly when parked can develop carburettor problems surprisingly quickly if fuel is left sitting in the system.
Before assuming the worst, it's often worth checking the fuel supply, draining old petrol and inspecting the carburettor for signs of blocked jets, varnish deposits or stuck floats.
Many classic motorcycles need nothing more than a thorough carburettor clean to return them to life after years in storage.
Have you ever brought a motorcycle back to life simply by cleaning the carburettors?
