Why classic motorcycle cables need regular attention
Throttle, clutch and brake cables are easy to forget about because they're usually hidden away and quietly doing their job.
However, many classic motorcycles still run on cables that are decades old. Over time they can become dry, stiff, frayed or corroded inside the outer casing.
A sticky throttle cable can make riding unpleasant, while a worn clutch cable always seems to fail at the worst possible moment.
When recommissioning a classic motorcycle, it's worth checking that every cable moves smoothly and returns freely. A few minutes spent inspecting and lubricating cables can make a surprising difference to how a bike feels on the road.
