Why Sticking Brakes Are Common On Long-Stored Motorcycles

One of the most important checks on any motorcycle that has been standing for years is the braking system.

Brake components do not like sitting unused.

Moisture can find its way into the system, pistons can seize, seals can harden and brake shoes can stick to drums. In some cases the brakes may appear to work at first, only to start binding once the motorcycle is moving.

A sticking brake can make a motorcycle difficult to push, reduce performance and create excessive heat that causes further damage.

Before riding any long-stored motorcycle, it is worth checking that the wheels spin freely and that the brakes release properly after being applied.

Many classic motorcycles need little more than careful cleaning and inspection, but it's a job that should never be skipped.

What is the worst seized brake system you have ever discovered on a classic motorcycle?
