The Kawasaki ZXR400 (produced late 1980s–1999) was one of the most popular 400 cc sports bikes in the UK, particularly as a grey import. With its “mini ZXR750” styling, high-revving engine and sharp handling, it became a common choice for younger riders under the 33 bhp restriction laws. Today, unmolested examples are increasingly sought-after.
Condition | Estimated Value (GBP) | Example External Source (plain text) |

Roadworthy / Presentable Running, MOT’d, usable examples; may show age or mild mods. |
£3,200 – £4,500 | H&H Classics — ZXR400 sold £3,680 (Jul 2023). Car & Classic dealer asks £3.5–4.5k for tidy riders. |
Restored / Excellent Very original, low-mileage survivors or restored bikes with full history. |
£5,000 – £6,500 | Iconic Auctioneers — 1996 ZXR400 sold £5,750 (Feb 2024). UK dealers listing original paint bikes up to £6.5k (2025). |
Notes: Prices have risen sharply in recent years as 1990s 400 cc sportbikes gain collector interest. Original paint, uncut frames and standard exhausts carry premiums. “Streetfightered” or track-modified examples trade below these ranges. Japanese imports are common but UK-supplied bikes fetch a small premium.
As of September 2025, UK Kawasaki ZXR400s typically sell for £1.8–2.8k (projects), £3.2–4.5k (roadworthy), and £5–6.5k (excellent/restored examples). Original, low-mileage UK-supplied bikes are leading the market and reaching the upper £6k+ bracket.
