About the 1973 Honda CL175

The Honda CL175 was a part of the CL series scramblers that Honda produced from the early 1960s. The 1973 model was a transition for Honda from the sloping engines to a more standardized, vertical configuration. While it wasn't a powerhouse, its 175cc engine was more than capable for both city commuting and light trail riding.

Boasting a top speed of 80 mph and an efficient fuel economy, the CL175 was both a practical and fun bike to own. It featured a parallel-twin, four-stroke engine, and a 5-speed gearbox, making it versatile across different types of terrain. The bike's lightweight frame also made it easier to maneuver, particularly in off-road situations.

The 1973 CL175 had its roots in the cafe racer culture but was equally at home on dirt trails. Over the years, the CL175 has become a collectible classic. Its appeal lies in its simplicity and the purity of the riding experience it offers. In terms of cultural impact, the CL175 and its siblings in the CL series were some of the first motorcycles to truly bridge the gap between on-road and off-road riding, leading the way for future dual-sport motorcycles.
