Why do fuel tanks rust inside?

It's a common problem on motorcycles that have spent years in storage.

When a motorcycle sits unused, condensation can form inside the fuel tank as temperatures rise and fall.

Over time, this moisture can lead to corrosion, particularly if the tank contains little or no fuel.

Internal rust can cause blocked fuel taps, clogged filters and carburettor problems if rust particles make their way through the fuel system.

Fortunately, many rusty fuel tanks can often be cleaned and restored.

It's one of the most common jobs encountered when bringing long-stored motorcycles back to life.
