Why do some classic motorcycles leak oil?
This is one of the most common comments made about older motorcycles.
Many classic motorcycles were designed and built at a time when manufacturing tolerances, sealing materials and engineering practices were very different from today.
After decades of use, storage and repairs, it is not unusual for older machines to develop small oil leaks.
Some leaks are minor and part of classic motorcycle ownership, while others may indicate that maintenance is required.
A few drops on the garage floor do not always mean there is a serious problem, but it is always worth investigating any significant leak.
