1990s Ducati 916 (Strada & Biposto) Valuation Report

Date: December 2025

Scope of This Report

This report covers standard-production Ducati 916 models from the 1990s – principally the 916 Strada (monoposto) and 916 Biposto. Higher-spec and limited-edition variants such as the 916 SP, 916 SPS, SP2/SP3, Senna and Carl Fogarty Replica models are not included here, as they sit in a different price bracket and require their own valuation treatment.

Historical Overview

Launched in 1994, the Ducati 916 is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful and influential superbikes ever built. Designed by Massimo Tamburini, the 916 combined a 916cc liquid-cooled Desmodromic L-twin engine with a steel trellis frame, single-sided swingarm and aggressive, compact styling. Period road tests praised its handling and race-bike feel, and the 916 quickly became the poster bike of the 1990s.

In the UK market, standard 916 Strada and Biposto models now occupy the “modern classic” space: old enough to be collectible, but still very usable. Many were used hard or modified, while a growing number have been preserved or restored. Recent UK auction results show good standard bikes changing hands in the £8,000–£9,000 region, with low-mileage examples attracting strong dealer asking prices into five figures.

Live UK Market Evidence (December 2025)

Recent UK auction data for standard 916 models includes:

Active UK dealer and private listings (AutoTrader, Gumtree and specialist dealers) show:

Limited-edition models such as the 916 SPS, SP, Senna and Fogarty Replica regularly achieve substantially higher figures (from the high teens upward), but these are deliberately excluded from the value bands below.

UK Valuation Summary – 1990s Ducati 916 (Strada & Biposto)

Condition Estimated Value (GBP) Data Source / Notes
Project / Non-Runner
Long-stored or non-running bike; may have cosmetic damage, missing panels or non-standard parts. Typically not ready to ride and may need engine, belt and chassis work.
£4,500 – £6,500 This band reflects the implied discount below recent £8k–£9k auction results for usable bikes. Standard 916s remain desirable even as projects, so spares/repair and high-mileage non-runners still trade at strong money. Actual prices depend heavily on completeness of bodywork, originality and whether the bike retains its UK V5C.
Roadworthy / Presentable Rider
Running, usable bike with MOT (or MOT-exempt but clearly roadworthy); presentable cosmetics with age-related wear; may have sensible upgrades (exhausts, brake lines, etc.).
£6,500 – £8,750 Anchored by recent UK auction results: a 1995 916S Biposto at £8,050 and a 1998 916 Biposta at £8,625, plus dealer stock around £6,995–£8,995 for tidy but not perfect standard bikes. This range covers most honest “ride and enjoy” Strada and Biposto machines.
Very Tidy / Low-Mileage
Clean, largely original bike with good paint, straight panels, factory wheels and quality servicing; mileage typically in the low- to mid-teens or below, with a good history file.
£8,750 – £12,000 This band reflects high-quality standard 916s similar to those currently estimated at £7,000–£9,000 by major UK auction houses, together with dealer and private asking prices from the high £8,000s into the low-£10,000s for sharp Biposto and Strada examples. Low-mileage, original-paint bikes with documented servicing sit towards the upper end.
Collector-Grade / Exceptional Standard 916
Very low mileage (often sub-5,000–8,000 miles), excellent original paint and panels, matching numbers, strong provenance and comprehensive history. Standard Strada or Biposto only (no SP/SPS/Senna/Foggy).
£12,000 – £17,000+ The top end of the standard-model market is informed by current dealer and private listings for ultra-low-mile standard 916s, including examples advertised around £16,995, and by the clear premium collectors are paying for low-mile, original modern classics. Evidence for sales at the very top of this band is still limited, so the upper figures should be seen as achievable targets rather than guaranteed prices.

Value Influencing Factors

Conclusion

As of December 2025, the 1990s Ducati 916 Strada and Biposto occupy a strong and stable position in the UK modern-classic superbike market. Projects and non-running examples typically sit in the £4,500–£6,500 band, depending on completeness and paperwork. Most roadworthy, presentable riders change hands in the £6,500–£8,750 range, closely matching recent UK auction hammer prices for standard bikes.

Very tidy, low-mileage standard 916s realistically command £8,750–£12,000, while the very best collector-grade machines – particularly low-mile, largely original examples with excellent history – can justify £12,000–£17,000+ in the current UK market. Limited-edition SP, SPS, Senna and Fogarty Replica variants sit above these figures and are outside the scope of this standard-model report.

Sources & Methodology:
This valuation is based on recent UK auction results for Ducati 916 Strada/Biposto models (including Bonhams, H&H Auctioneers and Iconic Auctioneers), together with current dealer and private listings on platforms such as AutoTrader and Gumtree. Value bands are evidence-based estimates for December 2025 and may evolve as further high-profile sales occur.
