Scope of This Report

This report covers standard-production Ducati 916 models from the 1990s – principally the 916 Strada (monoposto) and 916 Biposto. Higher-spec and limited-edition variants such as the 916 SP, 916 SPS, SP2/SP3, Senna and Carl Fogarty Replica models are not included here, as they sit in a different price bracket and require their own valuation treatment.

Historical Overview

Launched in 1994, the Ducati 916 is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful and influential superbikes ever built. Limited-edition models such as the 916 SPS, SP, Senna and Fogarty Replica regularly achieve substantially higher figures (from the high teens upward), but these are deliberately excluded from the value bands below.

Originality: Factory paint, standard bodywork and exhausts, original indicators and mirrors all help. Heavy modification, race fairings or non-standard paint tend to hold values back unless the bike has a recognised race history.
Mileage and service history: Evidence of regular belt changes, valve-clearance checks and quality servicing is vital. Low-mile bikes with full documentation are the ones that reach the upper value bands.
Condition: Fairing damage, cracked panels, corrosion on fasteners and wheels, or tired suspension and brakes can all push a bike down a band, given the cost of rectification.
Paperwork: A UK V5C in the seller’s name, matching engine/frame numbers and a thick history file (invoices, MOTs, old adverts) significantly improve saleability and price.

Limited-edition SP, SPS, Senna and Fogarty Replica variants sit above these figures and are outside the scope of this standard-model report.
