The bevel-drive Ducati 900SS is the poster child for 1970s Italian superbikes. The earliest 1975 “round-case” machines (blue/silver) trace their lineage to Ducati’s Imola racers and are the most coveted. From 1976–1980 the “square-case” 900SS arrived with revised casings and detail updates; still very collectible, more usable, and notably more affordable in the UK than the ultra-rare 1975 bikes. As ever, originality, matching numbers and correct spec make the difference between “nice” and “blue-chip”.

Notes: UK-registered, documented round-case bikes in original blue/silver spec sit at the top end and can exceed the range when provenance is exceptional. Square-case values are strongest for unmolested, matching-numbers examples with correct carbs, Contis and bodywork. Modified or “bitsa” bikes trend 10–25% below midpoints.
The UK market draws a firm line between round- and square-case 900SS values. Round-case projects begin around £35–55k, usable riders achieve £55–80k, and collector-grade examples bring £85–120k+ with top money for fully documented, matching-numbers bikes. Square-case projects typically sit at £12–20k, roadworthy riders at £22–35k, and restored/original survivors at £35–55k. Buyers consistently pay for correctness, provenance and the right parts over fresh paint alone.
